PURPOSE:To facilitate the retaining operation of a night cover and prevent a transparent plate from spoiling see-through effect by a method wherein an open showcase is provided with a sash, covering the upper rim of the transparent plate, the automatic reeling type night cover, provided by spreading it at an opening to cover an air curtain, and a retaining device, provided at the pull-out end of the night cover and retained at the sash. CONSTITUTION:A sash 17, established on the upper part of a front wall 2A, covering the upper rim of a transparent plate 16 of glass and having a slender U-shape section, functions as a handrail and mitigates a shock against the upper rim of the transparent plate 16. One part of the sash 17 is cut and raised to use it as a retaining device 19. An automatic returning wound type or an automatic reeling type night cover 23, consisting of a flexible plastics sheet, film or the like and whose fixed end or an upper end is provided at the outside of the upper part of an opening through supporting fittings 24, covers the opening 3, provided at the outside of an air curtain A by pulling a retaining device 25, used both for a handle and provided at a pull-out end or a lower end, downwardly and retaining the retaining device 25 to the retainer 19 of the sash 17 under a condition that the night cover is spread. As a result, a freezing load at the opening 3 may be reduced and an injurious effect due to the operation of the retaining device 25 may be eliminated.
