Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compound effective in improving prophylactic function of a plant against microbial infection and enabling safe and efficient culture of agricultural crops, in high purity and yield, by treating pectin with a pectic acid lyase. CONSTITUTION:Pectin (preferably separated from the seed of Ficus awkeotsang Makino) is treated with a pectic acid lyase and the obtained oligogalacturonide mixture is preferably demethoxylated and then separated by ion-exchange chromatography to obtain the objective oligogalacturonide having a polymerization degree of preferably 6.
