PURPOSE:To obtain the character output device which can change arbitrarily a corresponding relation of a kind of a displayed character and a kind of a printing character by providing a main storage part, a storage means, a display means, a change instructing means, and a change control means. CONSTITUTION:A main storage part 11 and a disk 12 store a correspondence table of a kind of a character of a display part 17 and a printing part 19 and detailed descriptive information of a printing use font. A keyboard 14 inputs various information at the time of an editing instruction of the character and selects data on a display part by a mouse 15. The information from the keyboard and the mouse is inputted to the device through a control part 16. The display part 17 displays a document generated by an input character of the keyboard 14 in accordance with a kind of a display use character by a control of a control part 18. A printing part 19 prints a display document of the display part 17 by a set printing use character kind by a control of a control part 20. By this constitution, kinds of the display use and printing use characters are coordinated and displayed on the screen, and they can be changed to a desired kind by the keyboard and the mouse, and can be stored in the main storage part and the disk.
