Summary:PURPOSE:To maintain a high quality image over a long period of time by correcting the output of light emitting element according to the ratio of the surface density data of a photosensitive body and density data of a specified image. CONSTITUTION:Before a specified image which has been written in outside the image range on a photosensitive body A reaches a detecting position by a density sensor C, outputting voltage signals from sensor C are sampled by a surface density detecting means D at fixed short intervals of time, a specified number of times, and deriving their average and storing it as the surface density data of the photosensitive body A. After the image reaches the detecting position of the sensor C, the outputted voltage signals from sensor C are sampled at fixed short intervals of time by an image density detecting means E, and their average is derived and stored as the density data for the specified image. According to these two stored density data ratio, the light emitting output of light emitting elements such as a laser diode or a LED, etc., is corrected by a light quantity correcting means F.
