Summary:PURPOSE:To prevent weight loads or heat loads from being exerted on a transparent electrode by providing a Langmuir film of heat resistant organic polymer on the transparence electrode according to the Langmuir-Blodgett's technique. CONSTITUTION:A transparent electrode 2 is formed on a glass base 1 and also an insulating film 3 of polyimide is formed thereon by the Langmuir- Blodgett's technique. Next, a second insulating film 5, then an EL film 4 are laid thereon by a vacuum evaporation method while a luminescent center Mn or the like is added to the base material ZnS of the EL film 4, and an ITO electrode 6 is provided. Because it is a Langmuir film, the first insulating film 3 has few pin holes and is uniform in thickness, so that the element is in no danger of breakdown. The electrode 2 is protected against weight loads or heat loads, having the Langmuir film 3 of heat resistant polymer thereon.
