Summary:PURPOSE:To perform proper printing by a method wherein a carriage is moved to the outside of the first and second regions in such a case that a printing direction is left and the carriage is within the first region as well as a printing direction is right and the carriage is within the second region at the time of a mode using paper with a paper stapler before the paper is fed. CONSTITUTION:When a paper mode with a paper stapler is selected by the operation of a dip switch and a paper feed signal is generated from a paper feed signal generation means 2, a carriage is moved by a predetermined figure from a left margin position in the right direction by a carriage driving means when the first judge means 3 judges that a printing direction is left and the second judge means 4 judges that the carriage is within the first region. When the first judge means 3 judges that the printing direction is right and the third judge means 5 judges that the carriage is within the second region, the carriage is moved by the predetermined figure Y from a right margin position in the left direction by the driving means 7 to execute paper feed. By this method, proper printing can be performed without allowing a paper guide or an ink ribbon to collide with a paper stapling part during paper feed operation.
