Summary:PURPOSE:To detect the arrival of S wave in real time by observing data of the smoothed value of a horizontal motion component, the amplitude ratio of a vertical motion component and the horizontal motion component and direction of arrival of seismic wave at all times. CONSTITUTION:The device is provided with a sensor 1, an amplifier 2, a buffer amplifier 3, a control processing device 4 etc. A seismic wave detector 13, a sampling device 14 etc. are provided in the device 4. The sensor 1 detects seismic motion of the installed site at all times and sends it to the device 4. The device 4 fetches this information to the sampling device 14 at a specified time interval, and calculates the offset level of DC components of input data, from an average value of sampling information in several times in the past. On the other hand, the detector 3 always monitors whether exponent smoothed value of present horizontal component exceeds twice the exponent smoothed value 3 seconds before or not. When twice is exceeded, processing is made in detail to confirm whether it is S wave or not.
