Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain uniform compound oxide at low temperature and in a short retention time by evaporating water from a uniform aqueous solution of EDTA compound of one or more metallic elements to give a gelatinous substance and calcining the gelatinous substance at a high rate of heating. CONSTITUTION:The above-mentioned EDTA compound such as tetraacetate compound of Y, Ba, Cu, etc., is dissolved in water to prepare a uniform solution having a concentration <= saturated solubility and high as much as possible. Then water is evaporated from the solution by a conventional procedure by maintaining the solution preferably at about 80 deg.C. Then the prepared gelatinous substance is calcined at high rate of heating of 20-200 deg.C/second preferably for <=2 hours retention time to give uniform compound oxide. For example, in a superconducting material of Y-Ba-Cu-O base, composition YBa2Cu3O7-x of rhombic system is obtained by heating at 30 deg.C/second rate of heating and maintaining at 800 deg.C for 1 hour. The compound oxide has no deviation of composition and no reduction in yield as by conventional solid phase method or wet co-precipitation method and extremely improves critical current density Jc.
