Summary:PURPOSE:To enhance reliability, to increase working efficiency, and to reduce cost by arranging a positive plate and a negative plate on both sides of a sulfuric-acid impregnated sheet comprising a sulfuric acid absorbing-retaining material from which free sulfuric acid does not drop with sulfuric acid absorbed. CONSTITUTION:A positive plate 1 and a negative plate 2 are arranged on both sides of a sulfuric acid impregnated sheet 3 comprising a sulfuric acid absorbing- retaining material from which free sulfuric acid does not drop with sulfuric acid absorbed. The sheet 3 releases absorbed sulfuric acid so as to be used as an electrolyte and acts as a separator for surely separating the positive and negative plates. It is not necessary to handle sulfuric acid in the form of aqueous solution in the manufacturing process of a lead-acid battery, and manufacturing efficiency can remarkably be increased. In addition, corrosion of metallic part such as a terminal of the battery caused by adherence of sulfuric acid is prevented and reliability is increased.
