Summary:PURPOSE:To accurately grasp a heart beat condition by providing a control means for indicating an impedance pulse wave when the detection of pressure pulse waves on the portion to which an electrode is attached becomes abnormal. CONSTITUTION:A pulse wave detecting probe 12 is fixed onto the artery 10 on the wrist by means of a supporting band 14 and, as pressure pulse waves are detected, the pressure pulse waves and the pressure P1 in a housing 16 are stored by a RAM. On reaching the upper limit value PH, the pressure P1max at the time of generating the maximum pressure pulse wave MPmax is determined and maintained, storing the pressure pulse waves detected by a pulse wave sensor 18. Then, the actual highest blood pressure value H and lowest blood pressure value L are determined and stored and, as the measurement of a blood pressure value is completed, at the point of time when pressure pulse waves of (n) in number are stored, the average value of the amplitude value thereof and the average value of the amplitude value of impedance pulse waves are calculated and compared to judge the abnormality of pressure pulse waves. When the pressure pulse waves are judged to be abnormal, the highest value mImax of an impedance pulse wave MI1 and the lowest value mImin of the impedance pulse wave MI1 detected from a differential amplifier are determined to calculated the highest blood pressure value and the lowest pressure value. Hence, the heart beat can be accurately grasped.
