Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain a steady mode distribution state with a short fiber length even in a step index type optical fiber by winding the optical fiber like S between two cylinders which satisfy specific conditions. CONSTITUTION:The winding shape of an optical fiber 3 between two cylinders 1 and 2 is made into sigmoid, one cylinder has a diameter 10-30 times as large as an optical fiber core diameter (f), the other has a diameter equal to that of the cylinder or above and an inner end distance (d) between the cylinders is made 20 times as large as the optical fiber core diameter (f) or below. Thus, even in the step index type optical fiber, the compact, low-loss and stead mode distribution state can be obtained with the short fiber length.
