Summary: | PURPOSE:To obtain the subject polymer free from epoxy group and having excellent gas barrierness, etc., by reacting a mononuclear aromatic diol with an epihalohydrin and reacting the obtained hydroxy ether with an aromatic monoalcohol. CONSTITUTION:The objective polymer having an intrinsic viscosity of 0.3-2dl/g and expressed by formula (Ar and Ar are 6-15C aromatic group; Ar is p- phenylene; n is positive integer) is produced by mixing (A) a mononuclear aromatic diol (e.g., hydroquinone) and (B) an epihalohydrin, reacting e.g., at 60-140 deg.C to obtain a diglycidyl ether, adding a basic catalyst (preferably triethylamine, etc.) to the ether, further reacting with the component A to form a hydroxy ether compound and finally reacting with (C) a 6-15C aromatic monoalcohol (e.g., phenol). |
