Summary:PURPOSE:To economically purify waste water contg. pectin only with equipping a simple pectin-decomposing vessel by treating the waste water with immobilized microorganism decomposing pectin to low mol. wt. compds. in advance and thereafter by treating by a usual activated sludge process. CONSTITUTION:About 30l immobilized pectin-decomposing microorganism contact material 2 packed between inclined plates with polyester fiber, and attached and immobilized thereon pectin-decomposing bacteria mainly consisting Penicillium-janthinellum, is sunk in about 50l aeration tank. The orange-canning waste water having about 2,000ppm COD is introduced at 1.5-2l/hr flow rate to the immobilized microorganism layer in the aeration tank, then, the treated water is taken out from an outlet 3 in the opposite position of an inlet 1 and introduced to a usual activated sludge process equipment 5 to purify. Thereby, the COD of the treated water is about 100ppm and the removing coefft. of COD becomes 95%. Thus the waste water contg. pectin can be purified.
