Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compound with a simple process in high yield by reacting an alkenyl (meth)acrylate with bromine or a bromine-adding agent in an organic solvent at a low temperature, thereby selectively and exclusively brominating the double bond of the alkenyl group. CONSTITUTION:An alkenyl acrylate or methacrylate of formula I (R is H or methyl: m and n are 0-8) is brominated with bromine or a bromine-adding agent in an organic solvent (especially preferably aliphatic hydrocarbon, halogenated aliphatic hydrocarbon or ether) to brominate the double bond of the alkenyl group and obtain the brominated acrylate or methacrylate of formula II. The reaction is preferably carried out at <=30 deg.C. The process enables the selective and exclusive bromination of the double bond of alkenyl group while preventing the bromination of the double bond of the (meth)acryloyl group. The bromination can be easily carried out in high yield.
