Summary:PURPOSE:To eliminate uneven brightness and to reduce the cost of production and electric power consumption by setting the spacing between filaments at integer times the spacing between grids and impressing the driving voltages of the time width difference from each other on the respective groups dividing the grids. CONSTITUTION:The fluorescent display tube of a graphic type having the striped grids 2, anodes 3 and filaments 1 extended in parallel between the grids 2 is constituted by changing the driving time widths of the driving voltage to be impressed to the grids 2 according to the distances of the grids 2 from the filaments 1, setting the time width of the driving voltage on the grid (for example, G4) further from the filaments 1 longer than the time width of the grid voltage of the grids (for example, G3, G5) closer to the filaments 1 at the time of driving the above-mentioned tube and setting the inter-filament spacing at integer times the inter-grid spacing. The number of the filaments is decreased by this constitution and the cost of production and the electric power consumption are reduced; in addition, the uneven brightness is prevented.
