Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain an insulated wire of high flame retardancy and low dielectric constant by forming an insulating wire on the conductor from a modified polyphenylene ether resin composition which is made to foam. CONSTITUTION:An insulating layer 2 of a modified polyphenylene ether resin composition expressed by the expression is provided on a conductor 1. In the expression, R1-R4 are monosubstitutional groups selected from H, alkyl group, halogen, alkoxyl group, haloalkoxyl group, and (n) is a natural number. The insulating layer 2 is provided by extruding on the conductor both a masterpatch formed by dispersion of a chemical foaming agent of dissolution temperature in the range of 200 to 250 deg.C into a resin of mixing temperature less than 150 deg.C, and a modified polyphenylene ether resin composition, and by causing them to foam simultaneously with extrusion. An outside covering layer 4 is provided outside the insulating layer 2 via a shield layer 1 or adjacent insulating layers, which are provided on conductors arranged in a spaced, parallel relationship to each other, are connected together to form a flat shape, and a shield layer is provided outside the layers. The constitution offers an insulated wire of flame retardancy and low dielectric constant.
