Summary:PURPOSE:To always suitably display an ultrasonic image even when the number of ultrasonic scanning lines is changed by erasing the stored contents of a storing means when the number of the ultrasonic scanning lines is reduced at least. CONSTITUTION:When an input signal is Low, a freeze control circuit 7 prohibits the reloading of a frame memory in a DSC 4 and when the input signal is High, the freeze is canceled. When the freeze is canceled, the freeze control circuit 7 once clears (erases) the memory in the DSC 4 and afterwards, it is started to reload the memory. When a scanning line changeover switch 8 is turned ON or OFF, namely, when the number of the ultrasonic scanning lines is switched, a freeze signal generating circuit 10 outputs a signal, which is made Low for a fixed period, through an OR circuit 11 to the freeze control circuit 7. Thus, the freeze control circuit 7 freezes the DSC 4 for the fixed period and afterwards, the freeze is canceled. Then, the contents of the memory in the DSC 4 are once cleared.
