Summary:PURPOSE:To simply purify lanolin hardly containing any organic chloroine or organic phosphorous insecticide without coloring by subjecting crude lanolin to adsorption chromatography and solvent extraction and subsequently distilling off the solvent. CONSTITUTION:Melted or dissolved crude lanolin is subjected to adsorption chromatography and/or extraction using one or more solvent selected from water, alcohol, acetonitrile, dimethyl sulfoxide, N-methylpyrrolidone, acetone, methyl ethyl ketone and methyl isopropyl ketone, followed by distilling off the solvent to prepare purified lanolin having a total content of alpha, beta, gamma and delta-hexachlorobenzene of <=0.5ppm, a dieldrin content of <=0.5ppm, a total content of D.D.T. and D.D.D. of <=20ppm and a diazinon content of <=0.5ppm.
