Summary:PURPOSE:To monitor the deterioration on ageing of the structural material in an atomic reactor by using a mechanism with the strain increasing in accordance with the operating time of the reactor in the loading system of a test piece container. CONSTITUTION:The pellets 2a-2f obtained by sintering a mixture of Al2O3 and B4C are enclosed in the test piece container 1 made of stainless steel, and a current from a DC power source 6 is intermittently switched by a current polarity switching device and supplied to the feeder terminals 8a and 8b of the container 1 through a lead wire 7. The measuring terminals 3 connected to a multiplexer through a lead wire 4 are switched by the potential difference, and the potential difference is measured by micropotentiometers 5a-5f. When the internal stress in the container 1 is gradually increased by the cubic expansion of the pellets of the mixed powder of Al2O3 and B4C in the container 1 in the atomic reactor and generation of gaseous H2, the material of the container 1 is progressively deteriorated in the process of operation by the thermal stress. Consequently, the state can be measured and monitored with the lapse of time.
