PURPOSE:To make the simple and sure measurement of the characteristics of a valve actuation system possible by providing the valve actuation system and driving system to the simulated construction of an engine, mounting displacement meters to necessary places, feeding lubricating oil under pressure and generating simulation. CONSTITUTION:The running state of an engine is made constant by setting the number of revolutions of a cam shaft constant and the pressure and temp. of lubricating oil constant. The opening and closing states of valves are detected with touch sensors 25 and are displayed in valve opening and closing angles 21, 22. The loci of the entire motion of the valves are detected with displacement meters, and the magnified loci of the seat parts with displacement meters. Also, the bouncing characteristics of the valves are detected with the touch sensors 25 and a valve opening and closing detection circuit 24, and the motion loci of the plungers of valve lash adjusters are detected with displacement meters. These are displayed in correspondence to the rotating angles of the cam shaft on an oscilloscope 20. Such measurements are accomplished by changing the number of revolutions of the cam shaft and the pressure and temp. of the lubricating oil.
