Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain the title powder providing a Bi-based superconducting substance having high critical current density by heating amorphous powder of Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O-based oxide having specific average particle diameter and grinding. CONSTITUTION:Bi2O3 powder, SrCO3 powder, CaCO3 powder and CuO powder having >=about 10mum average particle diameter are blended in a ratio to give a superconductor. Then the blended powder is heat, melted, the melt is jetted toward between twin rolls which are being cooled and quenched to give an amorphous sheet of Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O-based oxide, which is ground by a method of grinding by a ball mill to produce amorphous powder of Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O-based oxide having 1-10mum average particle diameter. Then the powder is heat-treated and ground to give scaly Bi-based superconducting oxide powder having uniform directional property of crystal.
