Summary:PURPOSE:To improve a recognition ratio by extracting a relative distance between strokes and expressing an unknown pattern as a three-dimensional function including the relative distance. CONSTITUTION:The relative distances 3, 4 in the horizontal and vertical directions between a start point changing a black picture element to a white picture element and a final end changing the white picture element to another black picture element is defined as K. The relative distance K is added to two-dimensional feature value f(X, Y) on the X and Y coordinates to obtain a feature value f(X, Y, K). When the value K is considered up to the infinity, the outermost frame of the pattern also can be left as the feature value.
