Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain the title polymer improved in heat resistance, mechanical properties, flexibility and colorability by condensing a specified cyclic phosphonitrile compound with a prim. diamine or a prim. polyamine. CONSTITUTION:A cyclic phosphonitrile compound of formula I [wherein n is 3 or 4; 2n A groups are each (formyl)phenoxy, alkylphenoxy, halophenoxy, N-aromatic azomethinephenoxy or fluoroalkoxy, and at least two, on the average, formylphenoxy groups are contained] with a prim. diamine (e.g., o- phenylenediamine or a prim. polyamine (e.g., 3,3'-diaminobenzidine) in a -CHO to -NH2 ratio of 0.5-2.0 in terms of the functional groups to obtain a nonlinear phosphazene polymer which forms a Schiff base bond of formula II (wherein Z is an amine residue and may have residual bonds), having a weight loss <=20wt.% in thermogravimetry at 400 deg.C and a glass transition temperature >=120 deg.C.
