Summary:PURPOSE:To accurately calculate the distance from the feed end of the cable to an accident point by feeding electricity to the accident-phase cable through a power source capacitor and causing discharge at the accident point. CONSTITUTION:A power unit 2 applies a high voltage to the cable 1 and if the discharge is caused at the accident point 4, a discharging current (i) circulates and flows through a conductor 10 and a shield layer 11 to return to the feed terminal of the cable 1. At this time, the line constant of a line where the discharging current flows is only the reciprocal inductance between the feed end of the cable 1 and the electrostatic determination of the power source capacitor C of the power unit 2 and the discharging current is only the electrostatic the inductance 2 and the determination of the electrostatic capacitor C of the power unit 2, so that the discharging current attenuates through the resonance operation between said inductance and electrostatic determination. As a result, the inductance of the cable 1 know in advance leads to calculate the distance L from the feed end of the cable 1 to the accident point 4.
