Summary:PURPOSE:To stably obtain Aphanothece sacrum (a kind of fresh water algae) having a quality comparable to the algae harvested in the special production localities in high efficiency by culturing Aphanothece sacrum in a culture liquid having specific calcium concentration, magnesium concentration and potassium concentration. CONSTITUTION:Aphanothece sacrum having high quality can be produced in high efficiency by adding algae body of Aphanothece sacrum to a culture liquid having a calcium concentration of 2.5-7m.e./l, a magnesium concentration of 0.5-1.5m.e./l and a potassium concentration of 1-2m.e./l and preferably adjusted to 20+ or -2 deg.C and culturing the algae body in the medium. The amount of the Aphanothece sacrum to be added to the above culture liquid is preferably about 1wt.% based on the culture liquid in a state sufficiently drained by spontaneous draining method.
