Summary:PURPOSE:To provide plasticity required for molding process by adding a sugaralcohol to an oxide-based raw material of ceramics. CONSTITUTION:In production of ceramics or ceramic material using an oxide- based raw material, a sugaralcohol is added to the oxide-based raw material. A monosaccharide alcohol and/or oligosaccharide alcohol comprising a hexose as a constituent saccharide is preferable as the sugaralcohol. Sorbitol, mannitol, lactitol, etc., are preferable as the sugaralcohol. The amount of the sugaralcohol added is <= about 10% based on the oxide-based raw material and preferably 0.2-5%. For example, feldspar, silica rock, silicate, clay minerals, synthetic kaolinite, spinel, mullite, alumina, zirconia or ferrite may be cited as the oxide- based raw material.
