Summary:PURPOSE:To detect even a variable moving amount accurately by arranging a detection tooth having same width as the stator teeth at the opposite sides, and a position detecting section comprising a Hall element and a permanent magnet on the mover of a linear step motor. CONSTITUTION:A balanced motor comprises a stator 11 having teeth 11a and grooves 11b formed alternately with a predetermined pitch and a mover 12 movable in the longitudinal direction while being supported by a bearing 14. The mover 12 is provided with mover teeth 12a facing with the stator teeth 11a and further provided with a winding 13. A position detecting section 15 is formed, between right and left stators 11, of a detecting chip 16 having same width as the stator teeth 11a and permanent magnets 18a, 18b and a Hall element 17 held between them, and the position detecting section 15 is secured to the mover 12. Two sets of position detecting sections 15 are arranged longitudinally and the phase of the detecting chip 16 is shifted. By such arrangement, moving direction and moving amount variable with time can be detected accurately.
