Summary:PURPOSE:To eliminate the possibility of jamming and to improve the usability and easiness of use by supplying special paper, etc., from a hand insertion slot to an opening/closing claw which chucks the front edge of the paper slower than normal paper. CONSTITUTION:A register roller 20 stops the normal paper which is conveyed from a paper feed cassette 40 to this position temporarily in synchronism with the rotation of a transfer drum 22 according to the detection result of a paper feed sensor S1 to perform copying operation in 1st copy mode. When thin paper, OHP paper, etc., are set in the hand insertion feed slot 44, on the other hand, a form setting detection sensor S2 detects that and sends the detection result to a CPU to stop the transfer drum 22 temporarily while the opening/closing claw 38 is open. Then, a transfer sheet is supplied to the opening/closing claw 38 at a 2nd speed slower than a 1st speed and then a 2nd mode wherein the rotation of the transfer drum 22 is restarted is entered. Consequently, even when the special paper is conveyed, the possibility of jamming is eliminated and the usability and the easiness of use are improved.
