Summary:PURPOSE:To improve operability by judging whether the restart of a shifting latent image forming medium with a shifting means based on stored data is possible or not. CONSTITUTION:When the shift of the latent image forming medium by the shifting means 211 - 214 is stopped by the prescribed failure, the restart of shifting the latent image forming medium by the shifting means 211 - 214 based on the data stored in a storing means 203 is judged possible or not at the failure recovery, and when judged possible, automatic paper passing operation is restarted. During the automatic paper passing operation, when a driving power source of an image forming device is interrupted or the paper passing operation is stopped by error generation and that the automatic paper passing operation is stopped, the paper passing operation is restarted in the same condition in the case the stopped paper passing operation can be restarted when electric supply from the driving power source is restarted and the error is recovered. Thus, the operability is improved.
