Summary:PURPOSE:To make a clear display by providing a conductor which is applied with a positive or negative voltage for a counter electrode, scanning on a front board while the conductor is brought into contact with a transparent electrode and displaying the scanning track on a display board. CONSTITUTION:When an electric pen 50 is held in a hand and its conductor 52 is brought into contact with the transparent electrode 11c of the front board 11 of the display board 10, a voltage is applied between the transparent elec trode and counter electrode 14 and the tungsten oxide of a tungsten oxide layer 16 is reduced to color the layer in blue. When a colored material is col ored once, the state is held for a long time. For the purpose, the board 11 is scanned with the pen 50 to display a character and a picture on the board 10. In this case, the adjuster 53a of the variable resistor 53 of the pen 50 is adjusted to vary the voltage applied to the conductor 52, thereby changing the color tone which is displayed.
