Summary:NEW MATERIAL:A N-indanylcarboxylic acid amide derivative expressed by formula I [A is formula IV to formula VIII, etc. (X is halogen, CH3, CF3 or NO2; n is 0, 1 or 2; R5 is lower haloalkyl or lower alkyl; m is integer of 0-4); R1 to R3 are H or lower alkyl provided that R1, R2, R3 and R4 are not simultane ously H]. EXAMPLE:5,6-Dihydro-2-methyl-N-(1,1,3-trimethylindan-4-yl)-1,4-oxathin e-3- carboxamide. USE:A germicide for agriculture and horticulture exhibiting strong germicidal effect against drug-sensitive germs as well as drug-resistant germs. PREPARATION:Carboxylic acids expressed by formula II or reactive derivatives thereof are reacted with an aminoindane derivative expressed by formula III in the presence or absence of a solvent inert to reaction at -70 deg.C to boiling point of the solvent, preferably -40 deg.C to boiling point of the solvent to provide the compound expressed by formula I.
