PURPOSE:To use a prepaid card until a balance amount becomes zero by switching a way for printing the balance to the prepaid card from the printing of a standard mark to the printing of the balance itself based on the balance amount. CONSTITUTION:A card K is sent in a reading/writing magnetic head 39 by a carrying motor 34, data sent from a passing ticket confirming machine 11 through a controller 15, namely, the passing charge of a charge indicator is subtracted, and the balance amount is written in the magnetic recording layer of the card K by the head 39. The card K is sent in the head 39 again by the motor 34, and it is checked whether the data are normally written in the card K or not. At this time, it is judged whether the standard of the balance amount to be recorded in the card K, namely, the standard mark, is to be printed in the upper part of the balance amount previously printed at the right edge of the card K in a printing part I or the balance amount is to be printed in a prescribed printing area in the printing part I. The card K is carried from an encoding part E to the printing part I, either the standard mask is printed or a used date and the balance amount are printed in the prescribed printing area with a platen 40 and a thermal head 41, and the card K is ejected to a card port 31.
