Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain the subject composition containing a specified aromatic ester-based compound, a nematic compound having negative dielectric anisotropy, stable to moisture, heat, etc., and capable of a wide margin in time sharing drive. CONSTITUTION:The objective composition is composed of (A) <=10mol.% compound represented by formula I and/or formula II (R1 and R2 are 1-6C straight chain alkyl or straight chain alkoxy; R3 is 4-6C straight chain alkyl) and (B) (i) a nematic liquid crystal(-like) compound having negative dielectric anisotropy and/or (ii) a nematic liquid crystal(-like) compound having positive dielectric anisotropy.
