Summary:PURPOSE:To detect up to a code error caused in the process of multiplex and demultiplex by inserting parity information of a low-order group signal before multiplexing as stuff pulse and multiplexing the signal and collating the parity bit of the demultiplexed low-order group signal with the parity bit of the stuff pulse in the parity check. CONSTITUTION:A digital path is monitored between opposed stuff multiplex converters 1 and 5. That is, in the case of stuff synchronization to each inputted low-order group digital signal, the parity information obtained by counting number of marks of the signal from the insertion of a stuff pulse A till the insertion of the succeeding stuff pulse B is inserted as the stuff pulse just before (accurately, a parity bit (parity information) is inserted in place of a stuff pulse) and the result is multiplexed and sent to the opposite device at the sender side. Moreover, at the receiver side, in the case of applying destuff of each low-order group signal subject to multiplex and demultiplex, number of marks of the signal from the extraction of the stuff pulse A till the extraction of the succeeding stuff pulse B is counted, and the count and the parity information represented by the stuff pulse B extracted just after are collated.
