Summary:PURPOSE:To improve the dispersibility of the starting powder, reducing the binder, and increase the sintering properties by surfacetreating the starting powder for ferrite with a specific alkoxysilane, kneading together with an organic binder, forming, defatting and sintering the product. CONSTITUTION:A starting powder of ferrite is treated with an organometallic compound having one or more of Si atoms and alkoxy groups in one molecule, such as gamma-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane, then mixed with an organic binder, kneaded, pelletized, formed and defatted with heat. At this time, the binder is pyrolyzed and vaporized off whereby the powder surface are coated with Si compounds. Then, the product is sintered to diffuse the Si compounds inside the powder and allow the compounds to deposit on the crystal grain boundaries whereby the subject sintered ferrite is obtained.
