Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain a polyol compsn. with low viscosity and excellent fineness and dispersion stability of particles by performing a condensation reaction of an aldehyde-reactive compd. in water or an org. solvent in the presence of an active hydrogen compd. and substituting polyol for the dispersing medium after fine particles are deposited. CONSTITUTION:In a method wherein condensation reaction of a compd. capable of condensing with aldehydes with an aldehyde or its precondensate is performed in water and/or a medium wherein an org. solvent is a main component and condensed particles are deposited, said condensation reaction is performed in the presence of an active hydrogen compd. in an amount 1.2 times or less than that of deposited solid reactive with an org. isocyanate as a stabilizer of the particles (e.g., polyether polyols or polyester polyols). The medium is removed under a condition wherein an active hydrogen compd. reactive with an org. isocyanate is if necessary added or not added. A polyol compsn. wherein particles of the aldehyde resin is dispersed in the polyol and which exhibits low viscosity and excellent fineness and dispersion stability of particles can be obtd.
