Summary:PURPOSE:To attain high speed operation regardless of a CPU even when source data are one bit and the depth of destination data is 1, 4, 8 and 16 bits by executing the extension of the depth of the source data with hardware. CONSTITUTION:A rectangular area arithmetic unit is composed of a multiplexer 1 for source data, a register 2 for presource data, a register 3 for source data, a register 4 for destination data, a barrel shifter 5, a source data extension multiplexer 7, a raster computing element 9, etc. A multiplexer 7 for extending source data has 16 multiplexers between original source data and extension source data and these are 4 inputs and 1 output multiplexer. It is determined by the signal of the selecting line of the multiplexer which input is selected. Thus, even when the operation of bit printing is executed and the depth of the source data is 1 and the depth of destination data is 1, 4, 8 and 16, the high speed operation can be executed regardless of the CPU.
