Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain an appropriate monochromatic hard copy irrespective of a kind of a background color by always comparing display data which is read out of a frame buffer with background color data which is set to a window to which a scanning position belongs. CONSTITUTION:A window detecting means 6 detects in which window the present scanning position is contained from positions, sizes and overlap information of windows A, B, C and D stored in a window position register 5 by a position coordinate outputted from a processor MPU 1 and stored in a position register 2. Subsequently, by receiving an output of the window detecting means 6, background color data stored in a background color table 7 is read out, and on the other hand, display data corresponding to the position coordinate in the position register 2 given to a frame buffer 4 is read out. A comparing means 8 compares the display data and the background color data, and '0' of a background part and '1' of a character part are written in an output buffer OB, when a coincidence output is executed, and when a discrepancy output is executed, respectively.
