Summary:PURPOSE:To omit to discriminate a nonfocusing direction and to speed up focusing by determining a representative speed so that a 2nd lens group becomes out of focus in a specific direction. CONSTITUTION:A 1st group lens 1 is fixed to a lens frame 103, engaged with a fixed lens barrel 102 threadably at the best lens position, and fixed with a screw 104 after being adjusted. A 2nd group lens (variator) 2 is fixed to a variable moving ring 105 and moves in a thrust direction (optical-axis direction) under the guidance of a bar 108. Then the representative speed of the 2nd lens group 2 which serves for both correction and focusing is set to a front or rear focus state so as to obtain an out-of-focus state. Consequently, the correcting direction can be determined unequivocally and the time required to discriminate the correcting direction is omitted; and the response time up to focusing is shortened and a program is simplified.
