Summary:PURPOSE:To reduce load on a host device and to obtain an efficient output result by deciding whether or not the condition of a data part is satisfied according to a conditioned function character and outputting the function character as a valid or invalid one. CONSTITUTION:One-line print data (output data) which is sent out of the host device 13 is stored temporarily in a receiving buffer 14 and then transferred to an intermediate buffer 21. In this transfer process, the print data is edited with the conditioned function character. Then the condition of the function character itself is set and an output device judges whether or not the condition is satisfied to determine whether the function character at the data part is valid or invalid. The output format of the condition judgement, etc., can be edited on the output device side independently. Consequently, the load on the host device is reduced and the output efficiency is improved.
