Summary:PURPOSE:To improve safety and performance of a battery by filling a gap between an electricity generating body made by spirally winding a cluster of strip-shaped electrodes and an opening sealing body with plastic granular bodies. CONSTITUTION:A gap between an electricity generating body 4 made by spirally winding a cluster of strip like electrodes constituted by laminating an anode 1 and a cathode 2 with an interposed separator 3 and an opening sealing body 9 is filled with plastic granular bodies 8. As a result, the top surface of the electricity generating body 4 is resiliently depressed by the plastic granular bodies 8 and therefore the vertical movement of the electricity generating body 8 is effectively restrained. This arrangement securely prevents internal short circuit caused by such a kind of vertical movement and improves safety and performance of a battery.
