Summary:PURPOSE:To improve discharge performance by using beta type manganese dioxide obtained by treating gamma type manganes dioxide at a specific temperature in a water solution of H2SO4 for an anode. CONSTITUTION:As manganese dioxide, beta type manganese dioxide obtained by treating gamma type manganese dioxide in the temperature range of 130-145 deg.C in the water solution of H2SO4 is used. The manganese dioxide obtained with this process, however, is of beta type of crystal phase according to the X-ray diffraction method and is not completely the same with the beta type manganese dioxide altered from gamma type manganese dioxide by the conventional heat treatment. The beta type manganese dioxide obtained in this way is used as an anode active substance for a nonaqueous electrolyte battery. This provides a high discharge performance.
