Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain the polarizing plate which has high polarizing power and high contrast and deceases unequalness by mixing a compd. having a prescribed compsn. and a compd. having another prescribed compsn. and coating the mixture on the plate. CONSTITUTION:The polarizing plate is formed by mixing the compd. expressed by formula I and the compd. expressed by formula II or formula III and applying the mixture on the plate. In formula I, A1: a phenyl group which may be substd. with lower alkyl group, lower alkoxy group or a sulfonic group A2: a phenyl group which may be substd. with a sulfonic group; R1, R2: a hydroxyl group or lower alkoxy group; R2, R3, R5, R6: respectively independently a hydrogen atom, hydroxyl group or sulfonic acid group; R7: a hydrogen atom, methyl group or phenyl group which may be substd. In formula II, R8, R9: respectively independently a hydrogen atom, methyl group, methoxy group or sulfonic acid group; B: a hydroxyl group, sulfonic acid group or naphthyl group substd. with an amino group. In formula III, C, D, R10 respectively denote the explanations given for formula III.
