Summary:PURPOSE:To effectively keep molten metal in runner part in a die to hot at the time of casting iron or non-ferrous metal and to prevent cooling and solidifi cation by setting heat insulating material for molten metal composed of in organic fiber-made cylindrical body in the runner of the casting die. CONSTITUTION:The heat insulating material for the molten metal set in the runner part in the die is constituted of the inorganic fiber-made cylindrical body of glass, rock wool, silica, alumina, silicon carbide, etc. The thickness of this cylindrical body is suitable to about 0.1-30mm. By this method, at the time of casting the iron or the non-ferrous metal, the molten metal in the runner part in the die is effectively kept to hot. By this method, the cooling and the solidification of the molten metal existing in the runner are prevented and the same effect as enlarging the cross sectional area of the runner is dis played and the development of defect of pin hole, cavity, etc., in the product caused by misrun of the molten metal is prevented. Further, at the time of casting non-ferrous metal, erosion of the die is restricted, too.
