Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain a flame retardant resin composition, excellent in low toxicity and smoking properties, heat resistance and electric characteristics and suitable as flame retardant electric wires and flame retardant heat shrinkable tubes by blending a polyolefin with an inorganic flame retardant and polyether imide. CONSTITUTION:A flame retardant resin composition obtained by blending (A) 100pts.wt. polyolefin resin with (B) 50-200pts.wt. inorganic flame retardant (e.g., aluminum hydroxide or antimony trioxide) and (C) >=10pts.wt., preferably <=200pts.wt. polyether imide expressed by the formula. A coating layer consisting of the above-mentioned flame retardant resin composition is formed on an electric wire and crosslinked to produce a flame retardant electric wire. Alternatively, a tubular molded body consisting of the flame retardant resin composition, crosslinked and drawn in the radial direction to produce a flame retardant heat shrinkable tube.
