Summary:PURPOSE:To make a reaction product insoluble and infusible and to improve its hardness and toughness, by reacting a bis(2-oxazoline) compd., a specified phenol compd. and an epoxy compd. CONSTITUTION:A bis(2-oxazoline) compd. (a) of the formula (wherein R is a carbon-to-carbon bond or a divalent hydrocarbon group; R<1-4> is each H, an alkyl or an aryl) [e.g., 1,3-bis(2-oxazoline-2-yl)benzene], a compd. (B) having 2 or more phenolic hydroxyl groups in the molecule (e.g., a novolak phenol resin) and an epoxy compd. (c) having 2 or more epoxy groups in the molecule (e.g., diglycidyl ether or bisphenol A) are compounded in such a way that [the number of oxazoline rings of the component (a)] + [the number of epoxy groups of the components (c)] >= [the number of phenolic hydroxyl groups of the component (b)] is satisfied and the compounded mixture is reacted in the presence of a catalyst (e.g., diphenyl phosphite) at 80 deg.C or higher, prep. at 100-200 deg.C for 1min-2hr.
