Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain a safe cosmetic free from color and odor and having excellent stability with time, by using a horse oil refined by a column chromatographic means. CONSTITUTION:Horse oil (including horse fat) obtained by the high-pressure steam treatment, etc., of various part of horse is dissolved in a nonpolar solvent such as aliphatic hydrocarbons (e.g., petroleum ether or n-hexane), halogenated hydrocarbons (e.g., carbon tetrachloride), etc. The solution is passed through an adsorption column packed with an adsorbent (e.g., silica gel, activated clay or zeolite) to remove the impurities. The nonpolar solvent is distilled off from the purified product to obtain a purified horse oil having an APHA color tone of <=100 (measured by the method specified in 'Standard Test Method for the Analysis of Oils and Fats' established by Japan Oil Chemists' Society). The horse oil is used as a component of a cosmetic.
