Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain the above compound useful as a synthetic raw material for amino acid, etc., economically on an industrial scale while preventing the agglomeration of catalyst, by carrying out the oxidative dehydrogenation of glycols in the presence of a silver catalyst having particle surface partly covered with silicon carbide powder, etc. CONSTITUTION:Dialdehydes are produced by the oxidative dehydrogenation of glycols of formula (n>=2) (e.g., ethylene glycol or propylene glycol) in the presence of a silver catalyst having particle surface partly covered with silicon carbide powder or silicon nitride powder. The catalyst is granules produced, e.g., by electrolytic process, atomizer process, etc. A part of the surface of the silver particle is covered with silicon carbide powder or silicon nitride powder. It is effective to use the powder having particle diameter of 0.01-100mum, especially about 0.1-10mum.
