Summary:PURPOSE:To improve current limiting property with a small size by providing a magnetic substance formed in U-shape and coating the inner surface of the magnetic substance with an insulator generating a pyrolytic gas by the heat of an arc. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic substance 9 has cut-out parts 15 formed on side plates 7, which cut-out parts 15 are engaged with a driving coil 6. The magnetic flux generated around the arc 5 nearing an arc-extinguishing part 11 is collected in the magnetic substance 9, causing an interlinkage of the arc 5 with a magnetic flux passing between the side plates 7 of the magnetic substance 9, so that the arc 5 is magnetically attracted to the back plate 8 side and thus extended, whereby the arc voltage is increased. The arc 5 is pressed to an insulator 10 in the inside of the back plate 8, to which the heat of the arc 5 is transferred, and thus cooled. Further, by the use of melamine resins as the insulator 10, the heat conductivity of hydrogen gas which is a pyrolytic gas generated by heating with the arc increased, so that the arc 5 is rapidly cooled.
