Summary:PURPOSE:To prevent generation of scales on a roll surface and to improve tightly adhesion of a surface hardening film such as chrome plating to the roll surface by covering a roughened rolling roll surface with a rust preventive substance after subzero treatment. CONSTITUTION:A roll 1 whose surface is subjected to subzero treatment by spraying a liquid on the surface is immersed in a rust preventive oil tank 6 filled with a rust preventive oil 7 for machinery for a prescribed period of time. In short, the roll surface is covered with a rust preventive substance. Thus, impairing the appearance of a steel sheet caused by scale transfer onto the roll surface is prevented and tight adhesion of a chrome plating film to the roll surface after subzero treatment is markedly improved because generation of scales on the surface of the roll 1 after subzero treatment is prevented.
